about

«There is no way to shorten the present, this big suspension, and now we are forced to face it. We are living in ZERO time, and by definition it does not have a known duration.» - SPIME.IM

Turin-based media art collective SPIME.IM set out the cornerstones of their trajectory: from crumbling glitches and breathless machine funk circa 2050 to hyper-charged synthesizers, fluorescent hardcore and vast, forceful ambient: SPIME.IM’s propulsive sound is crystal clear, balancing human-scale harmonies with digital artefacts.

ZERO is both SPIME.IM’s starting point, and an extrapolation of their razor-sharp debut EXALAND: «When you start looking at something from the end you sometimes find yourself back at the beginning. Zero is at the beginning of Exaland, and it’s the beginning of the world we will create from now on».

By juxtaposing Bruce Sterling’s «spime» concept with «I am», SPIME.IM are the being that is intertwined between the artificial and the natural. Their works are human-machine interactions in sound, moving image and generative graphics. In their current audio-visual 360° live show «EXALAND», SPIME.IM interweave sound and image, letting sound parameters influence what manifests on-screen, and treating the camera perspective as an instrument. They have performed at festivals like L.E.V. (Madrid), Club to Club (Turin), Rhizom (Zurich) and Spring Attitude (Rome), amongst others.

The media art collective SPIME.IM explores the boundaries of identity and perception in a world populated by virtual doppelgängers.

Bruce Sterling’s «spime» describes the possibility of tracing an object through space and time for the duration of its existence. By juxtaposing his concept with «I am», SPIME.IM are the being that is intertwined between the artificial and the natural.
