about

Turin-based audiovisual collective SPIME.IM announce their forthcoming ‘Grey Line EP’ with another mind-bending videoclip and track: ‘Heliotrope’.

Setting out to describe the emotional place we are trapped in, SPIME.IM explain: «Starting from the exposure, the assimilation, and the analysis of the continuous media bombing, we set out to define this ‘era of the absurd’ we are living in, also named ‘the wrong timeline’».

Heliotrope, also known as bloodstone, has been used for centuries to ward off negative energy, to protect from harm, and to bring courage and strength to those who wear it. It is believed to help warriors to stay focused and determined in the face of danger.

The video accompanying the track revolves around the themes of war and military ‘intelligence’. It juxtaposes parades of soldiers from all continents marching in a militaristic display of power, and lines up AI-generated images of soldiers in the field, seemingly optimistic. As the video continues, the visuals get more and more surreal, highlighting the absurd nature of war. Military squads are seen playing infinite keyboards and embracing keytars like weapons while they are surrounded by flames. The video ends with a slideshow of bucolic images of soldiers in what seems to be their paradise - leaving the viewer with a sense of despair, and a faint idea of hope that one day «make love, not war» will be forced upon the powerful by the people.
